Juicy and smooth with tons of black cherry and a touch of spice. Perfect wine for pork, whether that’s roasted or pulled but also great on it’s own.

Producer
Venta la Vega is the personal project of renowned Bierzo oenologist Raúl Pérez one of the leading lights in the new generation of Spanish grape-growers. And none other than José Ángel Martínez from Envínate is in place as winemaker. He farms 225ha of organic vines in Almansa, the majority of which are Garnacha Tintorera, one of the rare, red-fleshed wine grapes. Like much of continental Spain regions, the arid soils, hot days, and cool night are a perfect breeding ground for growing organic grapes.
Viticulture
Vines, on average, are around 20 years old and planted at 850m above sea level. Soils are predominately limestone and the land is farmed organically. Grapes are machine harvested at night to help retain freshness from the middle of Septemeber.
Winemaking
80% Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet), 20% Syrah. Maceration and fermentation around 20 days, with maximum temperatures of 30°C, in stainless steel cisterns and tanks. Naturally produced alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the latter in casks for a period of three months.
Taste
Light-footed, juicy and inviting red wine. Soft red fruits with hints of liquorice and kirsch. It’s expressive and clean wine with a good balance and just really delicious.
Food Pairing
Great with roast pork but also great with pulled pork bao buns! Or, try slightly chilled in the summer months.
