Sesti’s wines are some of the finest that Montalcino has to offer and this is no exception! The house style is very perfumed with soft, sweet fruit and velvety, seductive tannins. Aged for 5 years before release, it’s had a further 7 years of bottle ageing making it wonderfully complex and a real treat.

Producer
Giuseppe Sesti didn’t initially choose a career in wine. Instead, he was inspired to study music, art, and astronomy, the latter becoming his profession. He met his future wife in Wales while writing his first book, and in 1975 moved to Tuscany, purchasing the abandoned castle of Argiano, slowly restoring the breathtaking estate later planting his vineyards around the castle. In 1999 the Sesti’s daughter, Elisa, joined the estate full time, becoming a partner in all aspects of production. The Sesti lineup includes a white Sauvignon and a Rosato, but their Brunello, Brunello Riserva, and Rosso di Montalcino provide traditional expressions of the appellation, robust and powerful yet refreshing, with great aging potential. The estate consists of 102 hectares (254 acres) of land, of which nine hectares are planted to vineyards. The rest is given to olive groves grazing or woodland. The vineyards are in the enviable position of being on the southern slopes of Montalcino, where some of the most prestigious Brunello comes from.
Viticulture
Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, which come from the estate vines planted from cuttings taken from very old neighbouring vineyards. To fertilise the vineyards and olive groves only vegetable and animal manure are used, and also for the spraying, biodegradable produce are used.
Winemaking
Fermentation is done in stainless steel and the wine is transferred to medium size oak barrels, where it remains for four years before being refined in the bottle for another year. Botted unfined and unfiltered.
Taste
There’s something Burgundian about the wine, at least in terms of the balance of aromatics and structure. Aromas of bright floral red berries, minerals and fresh herbs lead on to a plush, multi-layered palate with fine, polished tannins. Attractive chewy tannins provide backbone to the crisp flavours before a long clean finish that features a very strong savory quality. Prettier and perfumed, it has great elegance. Gorgeous, tangy and deep-fruited. A tremendous wine
Food Pairing
Rich tomato based dishes, rosemary and garlic roast lamb, Tuscan style steak, anything big, bold and rich.
