Porto Cálem has achieved the status of a universal brand, with an extensive offering in all Port wine categories but above all Tawny. It is in the Arnozelo Wine Estate that Porto Cálem wines are born.
Situated on the south bank of the Douro River, this wine estate has an area of 300 hectares, 100 of which occupied by the best vineyards of the Douro Demarcated Region, classified with the letter “A”. The rows of vines are traditionally planted across the slope in horizontal terraces. More recently vines have been planted up the slope (called “vinha ao alto”, meaning vertically planted) on mainly Schistous-sandstone (greywacke) up to an elavation of 600m.
Códega, Malvasia, Donzelinho and Esgana Cão. The wine making process consists in a slight maceration for extraction of colour and aromas and the pressing of the grapes without skins, followed by fermentation, which takes place very slowly in stainless steel vats, under low and controlled temperatures (between 16 and 18°C) to ensure a fresh and aromatic style. The fermentation is halted by adding grape brandy, creating the fortified wine.
Obtained by the blending of wines of different harvests, with different levels of maturation in large oak barrels and stainless steel vats for a minimum of 3 years, the result is a rich and well balanced wine.
Light straw coloured. Rich and aromatic nose, with exuberating floral aromas and tropical fruit notes. Smooth, full-bodied and determined on the taste with a delicious fruity finish.
