MORE INFORMATION
Producer
The winery was founded as a cooperative in 1934, just before the Spanish Civil War, by a group of local winegrowers. It is now a leading producer in the Jumilla region of southeastern Spain.
Viticulture & Winemaking
The old bush vines are low-yielding but give brilliant concentration of flavour and complexity. The roots have to delve deep into the dry, limestone soil to search for water. No sulphur is used during the winemaking process, giving extra depth of colour and aroma.
Wine has been made in this area for over 5000 years thanks to its combination of dry, Mediterranean climate and unfertile soils – perfect for growing quality, organic grapes. Jumilla grew in popularity at the end of the 19th Century as the phylloxera plague that was wiping out Bordeaux and other key European regions never reached Jumilla thanks to its poor, dry soils. For this reason, Jumilla has some of Europe’s oldest vines.
Taste
There are black fruits and pepper on the nose with dark cherry, damson and raspberry jam flavours on the palate.
