This is a wonderful example of a good quality wine for an excellent price. A blend of three grapes with a little time in oak makes for a balanced, medium bodied wine that’s become a staple to the range.

Casa Santos Lima is family owned (4th generation) with more than 350 ha of vineyards. It was founded by Joaquim Santos Lima at the end of the 19th century who was already a well-known wine producer and exporter. The Estate is formed by several “Quintas” all belonging to the family for longer than a century. They advanced greatly when Jose Luis Santos Lima (great grandson of the founder) left his financial full time job and started with their own brands and bottle plant.
They are responsible for more than a third of the exports of the wine under appellation Vinho Regional Lisboa and DOC Alenquer. Considerable investment ensures they have the top wine technology for continuous innovation making them one of the most globally decorated vineyards in terms of awards.
Most of Casa Santos Lima’s estates are located in Alenquer, 45km north of Lisbon. The vineyards are planted in gentle slopes with altitudes between 100 and 220 meters benefiting from an excellent sun exposition and a climate slightly tempered by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, 25 km away from the property. Vines grow in clay and limestone soils with harvest taking place between mid-September and end of October.
Blend of Tinta Roriz, Castelão, Pinot Noir. Grapes undergo pressing after total destemming and a temperature controlled fermentation is done in cement (epoxy lined) and stainless steel vats. After 28 days maceration, the wine spends three to four months ageing in oak barrels.
Ripe red fruits with an excellent balance of oak, it’s a fresh but medium bodied wine that has a long and pleasant finish. Juicy and fruity, perfect for a mid week glass or sharing with friends.
Enjoyed by itself or with ham, BBQs, pizza and meat/tomato based pasta dishes such as bolognese.
