Friends Tim Massey and David Goldingay, who have been in the industry for over 40 years have been consumed by an idea: the idea of taking craft beer and turning it in to a craft beer spirit.
So, in 2015 David set about designing and building his own unique still, a still that creates a particularly pure spirit retaining the characteristics of the original beer and the wood used. 5 years later, HMRC granted a Full Distiller License, allowing them start producing beer spirit, and start The Beer Barrel Distillery Co.
They’ve started collaborating with breweries including Kelham Island Brewery in Sheffield. A Sheffield staple, the Pale Rider from Kelham Island is a popular choice. They’ve taken the Pale Rider, made with commet, casade, willamette and chinook hops, and distilled it to create a spirit with notes of spice, pine, grapefruit, and elderberry with a citrus finish.
