Quinta do Silval has a long history in the Douro Demarcated Region for producing quality wines, both generous (Ports) and quiet (DOC Douro). Its properties have about 22 hectares of vineyard and are located in the famous parishes of Vale de Mendiz and Roncão, about 6 km from Vila do Pinhão.
The production of Port Wine by Quinta do Silval is secular, as well as its storage in cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, in order to promote the export of its wine. The transport of wine from Vila do Pinhão to the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia was carried out by the picturesque Rabelo Boats.
The owners of Quinta do Silval descend from one of the three branches of the Magalhães family, which has always been in the region of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, as the navigator Fernão Magalhães, from the neighboring town of Sabrosa, to Torquato de Magalhães, one of the famous Douro “paladins” and who owned Quinta do Silval.
Made from a selection of the best Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca grape varieties in the Douro region with 40% matured in French Oak.
Displaying a floral aroma and elements of quince and ripe white fruit, such as sweet melon. It is a pleasant and smooth wine.
This port is medium dry and amazing as an aperitif mixed with ice, tonic water, lemon slices and mint leaves as a long drink. Alternatively it has enough sweetness to match very well with a variety of cheeses as a late dinner drink on its own.
