MORE INFORMATION
Producer
Marcello Pelleriti is one of the leading lights of Argentinian wine making. He trained under the legendary Michel Rolland in Bordeaux and every September and October migrates to France where he is winemaker of Chateau Violette and Chateau Le Gay. It was making wine under the Chateau Violette name that lead to him being the first Argentinian to receive 100pts from wine critic Robert Parker. He now splits his time making wine in both France and is home land Argentina whislt also being an avid guitarist. He combined his love of music, wine and food by teaming up with a few others to host a festival called Wine Rock celebrating all three things!
Viticulture
Grapes are grown in La Consulta, Mendoza at an altitude of 3,200 ft. Soils here are loamy-silty of alluvial origin with gravel in the subsoil and calcareous deposits. The vines are old and are thought to have been planted in the early 1900s. Grapes are hand-picked using small 12 kg plastic boxes before a double selection process moving belt system and vibrating sorting table.
Winemaking
Grapes undergo a 10-day cold maceration before a temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation and hand pigeage. Malolactic fermentation in barrels with 12 months in French oak barrels, 6-month bottle storage.
Taste
Deep and complex, there’s notes of red fruits, black fruits, spice and floral notes- think plum, sweet spices and violet. A delicate wine on the palate, with round tannins. Elegant and persistent.
Food Pairing
Perfect pairing for lamb shanks or grilled steaks. Classic pairings you can’t go wrong with!
