Bodegas Viñas de Viñales seek to find a balance between the soil, the climate, the vine, the natural environment and the wine. For this reason, the farm organically, making wine with minimal intervention and converting to biodynamics. They are looking to create wines with a sense of place and an upmost respect for the environment. They have a tiny 8.2 ha of vineyards of which all their wines originate from. Along with the local variety of Mencia, they also grow Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Mencia is one of the primary grapes grown in Galcia with more than two thirds of the vineyards featuring the variety.The grape produces wines of full flavour and intensity with a solid dry finish ,smooth and aromatic .Cassis and Blackberry characyers dominate the nose with an earthy background on the palate.
100% mencia farmed organically. The vineyard in Bembibre (Bierzo) sits 700m above sea level and produces small yields. The soils here are made up of red clay. Fermentation with natural yeasts, left unfiltered and unoaked. No sulphites are added during the winemaking process taking the total sulphur content to below 30mg/l.
A lovely but easy wine with rich cherry notes with hints of balsamic on the nose. The palate shows dark deep fruit, with a long balanced finish and soft tannins.
Ideal with Iberico pork, roast duck and grilled vegetables.
Organic, low sulphur, no added sulphur, natural yeast fermentation, unfiltered.
