The Nardello family’s roots have been in Monteforte d’Alpone in Verona for hundreds of years. They can count on around 14ha of land, most of which constitute a historical core. In almost all the vineyards the average vine age is around 40/50 years. It was the Great-Grandfather Gaetano Maria who first started producing wine, followed by Grandfather Domenico. The winery, integrated inside the country house with a beautiful old courtyard, was full of large wooden barrels. It was an authentic village farmhouse. Gradually all the old, obsolete equipment was scrapped and, in the mid 1970s, wine-making activity came to a halt with grape cultivation only, taking the harvest to private bottlers.
The volcanic layers of these areas are of different colours going from the darker basalts in various shades of dark grey and black, to copper-coloured and ochre with patches of clay. The soil on Mount Zoppega is deeper, dark in colour and rich in clay and basalt rocks. This gives the wine a full-bodied richness and great depth in terms of mineral content. The soil on Mount Tondo, with its sandy-lime components, produces wines with a brilliant acid freshness that are gentler in the mouth and nose.
Soft pressing of the grapes, cold static decanting and beginning of alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks. In the middle of fermentation the wine is transferred in barriques, and the process continues in the wood. Malolactic fermentation in barriques takes place when necessary, then aging in wood for 6-7 months according to the features of that specific vintage
The colour is very intense and powerful, always intertwined with slight greenish shades. The nose is impressive; it exalts fruits rather than flowers, especially yellow fruits. In the mouth the foregoing perceptions are all confirmed, and the attention is all focused on the great structure and the sweet extracts.
