It all began in 1918 when, a few months before the Armistice, Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, born in the heart of the Port Wine hustle and bustle, decided to establish his own company. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and he had some experience in this business. With his uncle, he created a company to sell grape spirits to large Port Wine shippers. Soon afterwards he opened the head offices in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they remain to this date. Today, with three quintas in the best winemaking areas of the Douro Demarcated Region, Poças ensures its total control over the quality of its wines and the family is more involved than ever before.

Viticulture

Poças has three estates – or “Quintas”- with one in each sub-region of the Upper Douro wine region, totaling an area of 100 hectares. 76 of these hectares are planted with vines. The estates are Quinta das Quartas in Fontelas (Lower Corgo), Quinta de Santa Bárbara in Ervedosa do Douro (Upper Corgo) and Quinta de Vale de Cavalos in Numão (Upper Douro).Douro Demarcated Region is the oldest documented area of viticulture in the world and was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.

Winemaking

Taste

Ruby- Lots of raisin, fig and prune hints with a powerful sweetness at its core. In the mouth it has lots of dark fruits and some toffee hints. A great port for all year round.

LBV- Full red. Significant of ripe berry fruits. Full-bodied,yet elegant, with a very long mouth finish.
