MORE INFORMATION
Producer
Ana Rola was born and bred in the Douro and knew from an early age that she wanted to be a winemaker in her home land, the Douro Valley. Through growing up in the region, she has unbeatable terroir knowledge and a sense of originality which really helps her overcome the challenges in creating wines that stands out from the crowd.
The estate where Ana makes her wines, Quinta de Remostias, dates back to the 18th century and is located in Peso da Régua, right in the centre of Douro Valley. In 2014, Ana decided to leave her post as head wine maker at a large prestigious Douro winery to go it alone. She explains, “after so many years doing what I love for others, I think it gets to a point that we think ‘why not do it for myself.’” For Ana, it’s about making wines “that really tell you where they came from. Wine from specific vineyards with minimal intervention. Wines that are true & honest. We believe in what we do!’” & we do too!
Viticulture
Grapes come from 50+ year old vines traditional in Douro, a World Heritage Site. Quinta de Remostias has 8 hectares of vines that are planted on schistose soil slopes, facing south and west.
Winemaking
A blend including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. Grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel for around 7-10 day before being transferred to small 225 litre barrels. Malolactic fermentation then takes place before spending 12 months in barrel.
Taste
An incredibly aromatic but elegant nose with herbal notes of moss and bark, light florals and ripe fruit. The palate shows some of these notes along plums, matured dark fruits, spices and vanilla. The oak is perfectly integrated and smooths it out nicely. It has lively tannins, a long persistent finish, good acidity and an incredible structure. Elegant, aromatic and delicious.
Food Pairing
Treat this as you would any premium Bordeaux- charcuteries, duck, chateaubriand, roast beef, cheeses…. All the high protein food will be a match made in heaven.
