Bodegas Luis Alegre sits beneath the ancient walls of the beautiful village of Laguardia and the team are passionate exponents of Rioja Alavesa, so much so they would almost be willing to lose the Rioja badge in favour of this far more specific identity.
The winemaking team at Bodega Luis Alegre consists of Alejandro (Alex) Simo Gomez & Marta Gallego Ezquerro. Alex studied oenology before working for Radoux and selling some of the world’s finest wine barrels to customers in Spain and Portugal. He then set up the Rioja based cooperage Quercus before becoming part owner, chief cook and bottle washer at Luis Alegre. Marta is daughter of the legendary La Rioja Alta winemaker who created classic wines such as Viña Ardanza Reserva, Viña Alberdi Crianza & 904 Gran Reserva. She is a modern thinking, classically trained winemaker who seeks elegance, structure and balance in her wines, with plenty of fruit, natural acidity and minerality as touchstones.
