Skinos is the ancient name for Mastiha. The ancient Greeks knew it as a cure for stomach aches. Hippocrates recommended it as an excellent digestive aid, among many other therapeutic uses. Roman emperors used it to spice their wine,and during the Ottoman empire the harem ladies chewed it to whiten their teeth and freshen their breath. But most hedonistically of all, when it is distilled, it is transformed into one of the world’s truly unique spirits.
The under water volcanoes, the mild climate and the lime consisting soil of the Mediterranean Island of Chios, along with a tradition, rooted deeply in the ancient years, of cultivation and harvesting; make mastiha world unique.
Today Skinos Mastiha Spirit adopts the very same traditional harvesting and distillation process and creates a unique product, Mastiha crystals are macerated in high quality alcohol. The mixture is given at least 3 months to bond before it is delicately distilled in copper pot-stills.
