This wine really fits it’s name perfectly, it’s bursting with cherry! Light and fresh, it’s Pinot Noir-esque.

Producer
The Pfaffl winery is run by winemaker Roman Joseph Pfaffl and his sister Heidi Fischer who handles the administration and marketing. The winery is based in the village of Stetton in the Weinviertel region near Vienna. It has grown from the one acre acquired by their father in 1978 to 90 hectares now under their management.
They make a modern fresh style of wine perfectly balanced and well suited to the British taste. Their idea to enter the UK market has to be to simplify the labels and explain the predominant flavours clearly on the front label. It is an idea so simple you wonder how nobody has thought of it before. In 2016 Weingut Pfaffl was awarded the title European Winery of the Year by WINE ENTHUSIAST magazine. This is the first time the magazine has awarded the title to an Austrian wine producer.
Viticulture
They have around 110 hectares of vineyards on different sites. This means they have varying soils and micro climates that allow different styles of wine to be produced. Niederösterreich is the region around the capital Vienna and is Austria’s largest wine-growing area where the grapes for this wine come from. Loess soils, hot days and cool nights.
Winemaking
We couldn’t find much about the specific winemaking techniques but it is known that Weingut Pfaffl has a modern winery with temperature control across all areas to manage humidity and operates conventional winemaking techniques.
Taste
A fresh, lighter style of red, almost like an Austrian Pinot Noir. Juicy cherry with hints of vanilla and a spicy white pepper kick on the finish.
Food Pairing
A lovely wine to match with stuffed pork loin or lamb. Or go down the classic route and pair with duck!
