Farmer, winemaker, oenologist, wine producer and salesman. A true one man show, Tiago Sampaio is the founder of the winery Folias de Baco (Portuguese for “Bacchus’ Follies”) as well as an alchemist of its aromas and flavours. He carries within himself the dream of one day turning the knowledge he has gathered since he was a boy into reality. With a large part of his education in wine taking place in Portland, Oregon. Tiago returned to the Douro with a “fresh approach” in one of the most traditional wine regions of the world. A different style which makes his wines really stand out.
This mineral packed Alvarinho was hand harvested in vineyards located in the sub-region of Cima-Corgo (Alijó) and are at an average altitude of 600 meters, growing in granite derived soils. Wild fermented and farming is sustainable.
It presents a pale yellow colour with the exuberance typical for an Alvarinho but a great deal of complexity due to the very prolonged fermentation. In the mouth it has a great deal of volume together with a cintilante acidity. Extremely long after taste with the delicate acidity lingering in the mouth.
Vegan/veggie, wild fermentation, sustainable.
