The emotional link of the Calem family to the Douro and its wines began with the foundation of their company in 1859. Five generations later they continue to do so with the same concern for quality at a very reasonable price. José Maria Calém firmly believes that tradition is a trademark and their heritage. This boutique winery is equipped with granite tanks for foot treading with some wines especially their old vine wines that are from vines exceeding 100 years of age. Some of the wines produced are aged in French oak barrels and after bottling they continue ageing for a minimum of 12 months before being released.
Located in the heart of the Douro, Quinta do Sagrado has 20 hectares of terraced vineyards. The vineyards planted in 14 plots separated by vineyards, in addition to its privileged situation, bathed by the river and impacted by all the diversity of the Douro, give Quinta a unique production of quality and a very high reputation.
55% Touriga Nacional, 40% Old vines , 5% Tinto Cão. A wine that aged in full for 18 months in new and 2nd year oak and where old vine grapes (over 100 years old) are still foot pressed in granite lagares.
A special occasion? Then this will be the wine to enjoy with it. This premium wine from the amazing Sagrado producer is a result of great growing conditions on the beautiful schist slopes of the Douro valley. It has produced a wine that has a lively, limpid, violet appearance with vanilla and dark ripe berries on the nose. And as for the taste……delicious is a good start! It has great flavours, nice acidity and a smooth, well balanced finish.
